1805-15 George III London Sterling Silver Teapot, Open Sugar, Cream Jug & Tray

You are offerding on a Georgian / George III London Sterling Silver Tea Set. It is comprised of pieces that we acquired from one person. She said they were all family pieces and that it has been lovingly used for 2 centuries. They are not exact matchesto each other but are still a wonderful addition to any antique silver collection. The pieces are:

  • Teapot - The soft cornered rectangular body features engraved wreaths, leaves with vines, and flowers. There is also a wide "threaded" border around the pot and a smaller one on the finial.
    • Marks
      • on the body of the pot -I.W Lion facing left Leopard with crown U Monarch facing right [James Wintle, London, 1815]
      • on the handle - Monarch and Lion.
      • inside the lid - Lion U.
    • Size - approx7 inches tall X 6 inches deep X 11 1/2inches handle to spout
    • Weight - 22.54 Troy Ounces / 701.1 grams
    • Condition -Overall condition is good. The handle and spout seem original and well attached. The ivories are cracked but present and whole with their pins. The hinge on the lid is VERY good. I believe the finial is reattached if not a replacement. The four ball feet are still round and even and the pot sits firmly and without wobbling. There are no monograms and it is difficult to tell if there have been removals as the surfaces are hand hammered. The inside is a bit stained from tea but I managed to clean most of it with a quick rub with silver polish. The bottom has some buffed spots like something may have been removed but much more interesting is the different groups of numbers that look like what you find inside a watch case when a silversmith works on it, she leaves markings and dates. The one most easily read is £40.5.0
  • Sugar Bowl - Engraved with the sameengraved wreaths, leaves with vines, and flowers.
    • Marks - DUNH Lion facing left Leopard with crown P Monarch facing right [Duncan Urquhart & Naphtali Hart, London 1810]
    • Size - 7 1/4 inches handle to handle X 4 inches deep X 4 1/4 inches tall
    • Weight -7.70 troy ounces/ 239.4 grams
    • Condition - Overall condition is very good to excellent. The handles are well attached and appear to be original. The body is hammered and has few scratches or dings. The inside has a deep gold wash in very good condition. It sits on 4 ball feet that are intact and even. The bottom has similar buffings as if writing was removed but there are still lightly engraved markings and numbers.
  • Cream or Milk Jug - Matching piece in markings and decoration to the Sugar Bowl
    • Marks - DUNH Lionfacing left Leopard with crown P Monarch facing right [Duncan Urquhart & Naphtali Hart, London 1810]
    • Size - 5 1/4 inches handle to spout X 3 1/4 inches deep X 4 inches tall
    • Weight -4.8troy ounces/ 149.1 grams
    • Condition - Overall condition is very good to excellent. The handle is well attached and appears to be original. The body is hammered and has few scratches or dings. The inside has a deep gold wash in very good condition. It sits on 4 ball feet that are intact and even. The markings appear buffed, so I have to assume that the piece was buffed at least once. The bottom has similar buffingsas if writing or engraving was removed.
  • Tray - The oldest of the pieces and the piece that seems to have had the most work. It features a "thread" border and thread handles attached with acanthus leaves; lots of wreath and other period engravings with a crest in the center and "DEO ET ROI"
    • Marks -Lionfacing left Leopard with crown K Monarch facing right WBupside down [London 1805, Walter Brind or William Bennett?] I would love more info if you have it.
    • Size - 20 1/2 inches handle to handle X 13 1/2 side to side: the flat serving dimensions are 16 1/2 inches X 12 inches
    • Weight - 44.9 troy ounces / 1396.6 grams
    • Condition - This piece seems to have had extensive reconstruction over the centuries. It appears thatthe entire border was reattached at some point. There is a seam on the top rim as shown in the photos and the bend in thatrim is inconsistent making it appear a different width or higherto the right of the seam. That is the extent of the work, but it wasmajor. There are also light scratches top and bottom as expected and the tray wobbles, but that may be the border being out of oval pulling unevenly.
You are offerding on the 4 pieces as a set. Dates range from 1805 - 1815. Set weighs a total of 79.93 Troy Ounces / 2486.1 grams or 5 1/2 pounds. With proper packaging, it will most likely weigh almost 10 pounds when ready for shipment.
