Up for sale an antique VICTORIAN wrought sterling silver and glass cosmetic set ENGLAND/LONDON /1901. The set consists of 6 pieces - 2 perfume bottles with sterling silver caps, 2 powder, cotton or jewelry jars with sterling silver caps, a wide brush with a sterling silver back and a narrow brush with a sterling rib back. All silver details are made of hand wrought sterling silver.
Each silver piece is hallmarked. Brushes are marked :"C.D" for maker,"F" for 1901,"lion passant" for sterling silver and "leopard's head" for London. The caps of the perfume bottles and jars are marked with English colonial silver marks: "OF" and "§ C" in a rectangle for maker and "Elephant" in a rectangle for Calcutta/India. The maker is most likely Oomersi Mawji ( a very famous Indian silversmith) who produced the caps for the British silversmith. All silver parts are engraved in a cartouche with a beautiful coat of arms. The condition of the items is more than excellent for these years, everything is present and very well preserved. It was bought from a private collector from London.
These items have been used previously and may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but are in mint condition.Please look at the pictures carefully and feel free to contact me with any questions as these are not new items, being sold as found.
