For sale is a rather large set of 1847 Rogers Bros IS \"First Love\" pattern silverplate flatware. I love this pattern. Love it! Anyway, it\'s in very good, used condition. No, the set is not in mint condition. I will try to explain what I can. Please ask any questions you have about the condition of the pieces and I\'ll do my best to provide an answer. All of the dinner forks have a little wear on the back part of the right-most tine. You can\'t even see it from the front, and the pieces are 99 percent fine, but there the plating is worn on that one spot. Otherwise they shined up very well, though they do have many fine scratches (as will any modestly used silverplate). Many of the oval/soup spoons appear to be in ALMOST un-used condition. Two, however, did not shine up well as they had seen much more use. Both knife sets were in very good condition. Some were rather tarnished, but I was able to remove a good bit of that. Of course, lots over very fine, small scratches.Of the tea spoons, 5 did not shine up well. They had seen some miles. One had areas of plating removed and other damage. The other 8 were quite good.Of the more exotic serving pieces, most were in good shape. One of the round sugar spoons was badly tarnished. It cleaned up modestly well. I\'m not sure if it can completely come back. The two serving spoons, berry spoon and ladle all had a couple deeper scratches (not through the plating that I can tell) and the berry spoon has some wear on the back. Here is a list of the included items from a NON-EXPERT, using silverplate . com for comparison:<
  • 8 French blade dinner knives
  • 8 Tapered blade dinner knives
  • 16 Dinner forks
  • 16 Oval/soup spoons (7 3/8th inch)
  • 2 Sugar spoons
  • 8 Salad forks (with diamond cut-out)
  • 13 Tea spoons
  • 1 Tulip shaped dessert fork with design above tines
  • 1 Master butter knife
  • 2 Serving spoons (8 1/2 inch)
  • 1 Meat fork (8 7/8 inch)
  • 1 Gravy ladel
  • 1 Pickle fork
  • 1 Berry spoon (8 7/8 inches) A few big scratches in the spoon
  • I have never shipped a box of silverplate before. My plan is to take the pieces on the top shelf and tie them together and wrap them in bubble wrap while keeping them in the Rogers and Bros box. I think I can just lay some bubble wrap over the items in the bottom. The bottom line is that one must assume the box will be inverted at some point and I need to make sure that the flatware doesn\'t get loose and clang around. I\'ll figure it out!It appears that FedEx or USPS parcel select will be the cheapest option. The box and flatware alone weigh 17 pounds. The packaging materials and cardboard box add another 1.5 or so. If you have another shipping option you prefer, let me know.Btw, the box itself is in pretty good shape. If you know much about silverplate (and you probably know more than me) most of the boxes were not super well made. This one is no exception to the rule, but has suffered relatively little damage. I\'d give it a solid \"B\".
