Fantastic and very rare, original, ca1890\'s Pre-Prohibition, Villeroy & Boch / Mettlach Lidded Advertising Stein advertising the E. Tosetti Brewing Company of Chicago, Illinois and their “Champagne”, “Bohemian” and “Bavarian” Brands of Beer.

This fantastic lidded Beer Stein measures approx. 6 1/2” tall (to the top of the pewter thumb lift on the lid) and 3 3/4” in diameter at the base and is 1/2 liter in size. The stein features a fantastic, central image of the Ernest Tosetti Brewing Company Trade Mark a keg of beer with a shovel behind. The handle of the shovel has large, golden wings and the whole is surmounted by a star and surrounded by a wreath of hops and grains. Text on the Stein reads “E. Tosetti Brewing Co. / Chicago”.

This beautiful E. Tosetti Brewing Company Advertising Stein was manufactured in Germany and carries the classic Villeroy & Boch Mettlach mark on the base.

Ernst Tosetti Brewing Co. opened in 1886 and closed in 1915 (at the onset of National Prohibition). It was open for 29 years. Ernst Tosetti Brewing Co. was in the active brewing city of Chicago which at one time was listed as having 166 breweries.

This very rare and very attractive, Pre-Prohibition E. Tosetti Brewing Company Advertising Beer Stein is in very good condition. It presents as a typical late 19th / early 20th century Metlach Stoneware Lidded Stein - the colors are strong and the decoration crisp. There are two minuscule and unobtrusive nick to the glaze but is otherwise without flaw. The pewter lid has some very light and unobtrusive corrosion on the inner surface of the lid. The stoneware ground is clean and bright and the Stein is exceptionally attractive.
