1966 Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone, s/n 138,xxx. Here's an extremely rare and well preserved Mark VI alto saxophone in the prime Sanborn and Garrett serial number range with 99%+ original lacquer. Plus, it has a high F# key, which is extremely rare for altos of this period. This horn had a recent Tenor Madness overhaul, which does the absolute best work in the business on horn restorations. It's hard to find any flaws with this horn, as it almost has the look of a sax straight from the factory. There are some light scratches here and there, but overall it's a remarkably preserved saxophone.
I acquired this sax from the original owner who purchased it while stationed overseas in France in the 1960's. He was a clarinetist in a Navy Band, so this was rarely taken out of its case. You can tell how seldom it was used based on the fact that the touch points (octave key, side and palm keys) show very little lacquer loss.
The horn is absolutely amazing to play. It has that amazing early medium bow sound that these horns are famous for. Since it has the high F# key, it is just as at home on the classical side, allowing for much greater technical facility around the palm keys.
