Up for offers is this original and untouched M1860 U.S. Cavalry saber and scabbard. It was made by C. Roby & Co. and is so marked on the ricasso. The single edged curved blade is 34-1/4\" long. Blade is gray with no active rust and has been lightly sharpened. The hilt has a nice undamaged brass 3 branch guard which retains its leather blade buffer . The wooden grip has 95% of its leather covering intact and 100% of its wire wrap. All hilt components are tight to the blade. The iron scabbard appears to have been originally browned and exhibits light to medium rust. It fits the blade like a glove. It recently came from house several towns from here. A nice honest 1860 cavalry sword here.

In response to inquires and comments, I am adding the following information: The only markings on the sword is the one line maker\'s mark on the ricasso. The opposite side of the ricasso is blank - no date, no \"U.S\"., no inspector initials. Apparently, this sword was one of the 410 initially shipped by Roby early in 1861 as these are known to have the single line mark. Later swords had different maker\'s marks / logos. Some of these early swords ended up being sold to state militias either pre-war or at the start of the war, hence no \"U.S.\" or inspector marks. Conclusion is that these swords most likely saw action and that they are scarce. As a point of interest only, one of the swords Custer carried during the war was a Roby.
