Fancy Early Antique Leather Powderor Shot Flask, 1840 - 1850 Period, Hunting & Militia

DESCRIPTION:Scans show it all.....Nice large antiqueleather shooting/hunting flask.These were used to hold either gun powderor more typically buckshot, and became popular for hunting in the years after cow horn powder horns. Theywere carried and used with a man\'s regular hunting gear or often for militiaservice during the 1840 - 1850 period.

Leather flasks were less common than brass or copper, and has a great look. Has a brass top/mechanism which looks nice with the leather body. The brass pouring mechanismis there and the lever appears to work, unlike many that you see where the spring or lever is broken. This was also made with the typical period hunting bird/rabbit/dog/deer, etc. design impressed in the leather sides, just like in the typical brass ones.

This is NOT a repro. In good condition overall, and has nice aged patina and great eye appeal overall. An unusual antique pieceto fill that display space, to hang with an antique rifle over a fireplace, orit can be an original, functional piece to use with any muzzle loader.

Shot flasks took alot of abuse and wear during regular use, so leather ones are hard to still find these days. The leather on this is tough and durable and shows very little wear. A nice, unusual flask overall.....from my personal collection.
