Description:. These iron rings were distributed by the German (Deutschland) Historical Group (DHG) and were given in exchange for gold, silver, wedding bands, and other valuables that were donated to the German cause and were sold in New York City to Americans who were sympathetic to the Germans in WWI. This ring is size 8-1/2 and measures approximately 3/8\" across the top. It is stamped \"DEM ALTEN VATERLAND DIE TREUE ZU BEWEISEN\" on the side dated \"1914\" and \"GAB ICH IN SCHWERER ZEIT IHM GOLD FUR DIESES EISEN\" on the side marked \"DHG\". This roughly translates to \"To prove faithful to the old homeland, I gave him gold hardware for this.\"

I have left this piece in untouched and uncleaned condition to protect its historical value and patina. Please note that there is wear on the plating as shown in the 3rd picture.
