Antique ABSINTHE liquor bottle PERNOD FILS hand blown w/ applied seal - 1800\'s:
$99.99

A LARGE12\" + inches tall beautiful DEEP OLIVE GREENcoloredcylinder shaped ANTIQUE ABSINTHE LIQUOR BOTTLE that has an applied seal on the shoulder. This is a very early hand Blown Into Mold Applied Lip bottle (BIMAL), it actually has a very crudely \'laid on ring\' and separately applied seal, dating it back to the mid-late 1800\'s.

  • Seal embossed: \" * / PERNOD FILS / * \".

  • Condition: This bottle is in GOOD SOLID condition. It has heavy stain (patina), etching and ground wear, that give it that old rustic look. It actually looks just like what a CENTURY OLD + bottle should look like, weathered though NOTHING SIGNIFICANTLY wrong with it. NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. (See photos for overall condition).

  • Age: A super early hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with an applied-top / laid on ring, and an APPLIED-SEAL, ca. mid-late 1800\'s.

  • The seal on the shoulder is APPLIED not molded or embossed, which is a desirable characteristic and testimony of a super early bottle.

  • Shipping: All DOMESTIC shipping charges INCLUDE insurance. We have enjoyed shipping our items all over the world and are happy to offer most of our items to international buyers. Yet insuring International parcels is very expensive so PLEASE NOTE; we do NOT insure International orders unless winning buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance quote. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and send payment acknowledgments and shipping confirmations. Your prompt payment will assure a very quick turn-around time. IMPORTANT NOTE: If our shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is especially important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are rough estimates.

As clearly seen in the pictures, this bottle is EMPTY, it has NO contents. In researching this bottle we find that it contained Absinthe, and Pernod Fils was a popular brand of absinthe prior to 1915, the year absinthe was banned throughout most of Europe. Like most absinthe, Pernod Fils was produced by macerating the herbs wormwood, fennel, melissa and anise in high-proof grape spirit in a copper alembic where they were then distilled, to produce a transparent liquor. Part of the distillate was then steeped with more green-colored herbs, such as hyssop and petite wormwood, to produce a green colored liquor that was then filtered and mixed with the main part. This was mostly to impart additional flavor and aroma to the absinthe, but also had the additional benefit of enhancing its visual appeal and it came to be know as The Green Ferry (La Fée Verté). The final product was roughly 68% alcohol. The predominant flavor in Pernod Couvet, like all absinthe, was anise, which has a pronounced liquorish taste. After mental-health issues started to arise about Absintheusers, manufacturers began producing variations of it and promoting it as a healthful tonic, in an attempt to combat the attacks on absinthe during the early twentieth century. Some very notable artists, authors, actors, poets, musicians, and entertainers all shared a common ground in Absinthe. Notable past Absinthe users include such ones such as Oscar Wilde, Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway; and it\'s even been said that the author Mary Shelley wrote the book \'Frankenstein\', while under its influence? Here is a very nice example of this ever popular bottle, it actually is the finest one we\'ve ever had, check it out!
