This is an old set of great highland pipes bagpipes. Needs minor reconditioning and cleaning to be playable. I don\'t think these were very high quality pipes, but they\'re old. These pipes were made, size, and are set up, for a lower tone register, from an earlier time, than is now popular for modern pipe bands, apparently. I was told this, not something I am versed in. Bass drone is approximately 33 inches long. Tenors are about 18 inches. The tenors don\'t seem to match, the reeding is a little different between them.I don\'t know exactly how old, but I\'d say at least turn of the 20th Century, or older. They may be Crown colonial manufacture.
When I bought these, about 15 years ago, they had long been painted black. They came, at that time, with an antique, made in Scotland, brown suede bag that was in poor condition.
The chanter is an antique Scottish R. G. LAWRIE GLASGOW stamped at top, looks like old Bakelite yellow fitting at bottom. It still has traces of a light colored label at the lower end. The blow pipe, one can tell from the beading, does not match the pipes, and was added at some time. I sent several pieces up to Kron in New York, because I was told that one stick was cracked and they were out of true. He repaired and re bored those two or three sticks and sent them back eventually.I don\'t know what the wood is; it is some very very heavy hard blond wood. These pipes weigh a ton. So if you are looking for something light, forget it.
There are several spots that were filled in, either bullet holes or wood knots, or manufacturers defects, I have no idea which. One spotquite round. See photo.

The metal fittings I believe are chrome plated brass. It doesn\'t rust, it doesn\'t tarnish. The chrome has rubbed off at several spots alongmetal pipe ends, here or there. I did see a spot of what looks like metal corrosion, around one of the stick ends where a wide metal fitting sits on the wood stick; a small area has corroded there, it seems to me.

These metal fittings have small metal chromed end pins, hammered into holes in the fittings. You can see that in photos. The pins are smaller than the holes, so I don\'t know what this pin, or nail, really does.
Comes with a medium synthetic Bannatyne bag, almost never used. That cost over 100 dollars alone.I had had installed synthetic drone reeds, that are adjustable I believe, but that was 10 years ago now. I am sure the set may need to be reconditioned or cleaned, twine, wax, cleaned, etc, by someone who knows what they are doing. I don\'t know how often one cleans bagpipes and pipe bags. I am not such a person.
United States, Canada, and Western Europe buyers only.
Sold as is.

These may possibly have been war pipes, somewhere.I don\'t know. They sure look like some kind of old colonial product, not the fancier, what you might call dudepipes, from Scotland. Just my view.
