COLLECTORS-CABIN GUYS-HUNTERS-PEOPLE WITH COLD BASEMENTS
These are all the folks (plus more) who use these and look for them. For those who will actually use them, such as cabin owners, preppers and such, this is a self contained furnace, stove, forge, griddle, smoker and more that runs on wood, coal or anything that burns. Others use these for decor and a complete and EXC condition one like this is IT! None finer anywhere for less than $1000 (see Good Time Stove Company Website) This is marked Atlanta Stove Works #40 + 1889 Conestoga (marked on other side)
This exact model, but rusted and missing the top and not usable, sold for $260 on and a #60 model in lesser condition is listed for $480 delivered or $350 pickup. There are several businesses that are OLD STOVE restorer/seller (see above) with web sites that you will find searching for this model. This EXACT model is $1250 in finer condition (restored) and $1000 like the one I have here. That is what these go for in actual stores, with about 2/3 less. This is a medium size at 26 inches tall and about 16 by 16 floor space. It was known as a camp or cabin stove as trappers and hunters used to pack one on a mule or dog sled and use it in their cabin for heat and cooking. This one is totally complete with the top round cover, the front slotted door and the flipping grate inside. I have read up a lot on these today, and they are a definite desirable item that sells for a lot more than you would think. Many people still use them in basements, sheds, garages and such as this little guy can heat a 20x16 garage or outbuilding to 80 degrees from what I read. The best use is coal (pea or nut) as wood will burn empty every 30 minutes. When these get going, they glow red, so obviously not for rooms where babies are crawling and they have to be mounted to a chimney for indoor use in a basement or garage. It has a standard 7 inch oval outlet on top. This one weighs about 55 or 60 pounds I would guess, but the condition is amazing. It was not stored in a barn or cabin but indoors, in a home. No rust, no repainting I can see and it is clean. Since the exact same stove sold for $5 MORE and it was rusty and missing the top plate (cant use it), this is a great buy. I dont know about the place asking $1000 but they have sold 100s of stoves since 1973 (maybe 1000s) and seem to know their business. If you have a property up North or in mountains, this can be what you actually need and will use. Small enough to fit behind the front seat of a 4 door sedan, it is truly portable and there are 100s of this model in remote cabins throughout the mountain areas all over the USA.
***Based on a tip from a potential buyer, I inspected the area where the firebox (lower) meets with the upper section as I was told that they tend to develop cracks here first. It checks out fine. No cracks or anything close and the lower section is also free of any cracks***
LISTED AS A LOCAL SALE ONLY as I do not want to deal with shipping. It would be a freight item, and if you really want it and will setup the shipping, I will work with youThough many buy old stoves and other cast iron items for gardens and yard decorations, this one is way too nice and 100% complete and functioning so this one should not be wasted in that way. Buy an old rusty one as it will look better out in a yard, and it can continue to rust for decades more. This one should be displayed or used.
