Very rare and original ca1905, Pre-Prohibition Tin Lithographed, Brewery / Beer Advertising Serving Tray from The West End Brewing Company of Utica, New York with a fantastic patriotic image of Lady Liberty draped in an American Flag and flanked by a spread wing, Bald Eagle perched on a Federal Shield. This wonderful, turn of the Serving Tray measures 12 3/4" in diameter and was manufactured by Kaufmann & Strauss, makers of some of the finest tin lithographed signs and advertising pieces ever produced.

The central image on this outstanding Beer Tray presents a wonderful, patriotic tableaux. At the center of the image stands Lady Liberty draped in an American Flag which presents both of her arms uncovered, a low cut neckline and displays her bare left leg to a point above the knee. She wears a Liberty cap on her head and red laced sandals that rise above her ankle. In the crook of her left arm she cradles a sheath of barley and in her right hand she holds a vine of hops. On the ground to her left is a beer barrel with advertising text on the end that reads "The West End Brewing Co. / Utica, N.Y.". At the right of Lady Liberty we see a majestic Bald Eagle perched on a red, white and blue, Federal Shield and grasping a white banner in its beak that features printed text that reads, not "E Pluribus Unum" but rather "High Grade Beers Only"!!!

A wide red border surrounds the central image with gold gilt lettering that reads simply ""The West End Brewing Co. / Utica, New York". Further gold gilt text on the surrounding, raised rim identifies the various types of Beer and Ale brewed by this Utica Brewery including "Fransiskaner" ; "Pilsner"; "Sparkling Ale"; and "Stock and Porter". The Tray is carries the mark of the manufacturer - Kaufmann & Strauss of New York City. The Chromolithography is of the VERY highest quality as would be expected from the outstanding craftsmen employed by this premier maker of tin lithographed advertising items.

This beautiful ca1905 West End Brewing Company, patriotic motif Advertising Tray is not a reproduction, reissue or restrike but is an original turn of the 20th century Serving Tray manufactured by Kaufmann & Strauss ca1905 for the West End Brewing Company of Utica, N.Y. The Tray is not dated but the subject matter and the design and style of lithography date it to the period around the turn of the 20th century.

This very rare and highly desirable, Tin Lithograph Brewery / Beer Advertising Tray is in fair to good condition only. There is significant wear to the surface and there has been significant inpainting and restoration. With all faults the Tray still displays nicely.
