This is no cheap display cannon or cast iron toy, but a fully functional signal cannon for noise making only. Please note... ITCANNOT FIRE A PROJECTILE OR BE CONVERTED TO FIRE A PROJECTILE E BAY POLICY.Barrel was cut from one solid block of 3\" steel ( I believe its stainless steel ) and drilled with 1\" diameter bore ( 18 1/2\" deep ) and weighs in just under 30 pounds. Overall length is 22\", muzzle diameter is 2 3/4\", and breech diameter is 3\" wide. Fuse hole is drilled ( 1/8\" ). Trunnions are 1 1/4\" diameter and approx 5 5/8\" wide. Barrel is like new and has never fired. Finish is black paint. Some areas show storage scuffs to paint. I bought this barrel hoping to make a carraige. Needless to say it never happened and has been sitting in my basement for over 5 years. I\'m 95% certain its stainless steel. Seeing no rust or oxidation should back that up. Signal cannons are great fun and a perfect wayto own an interactive piece of history. Before firing, Buyer should research proper use and safety guidelines for using signal cannons................ UPDATE >>>> Confirmed that barrel is STAINLESS STEEL. Took to Metal Fabricating / Welder Shop. They said it was not standard steel stock, but a 400 grade chromium stainless steel. The 400 series stainless steels are magnetic. The higher grade 300 series chromium nickel stainless steels are non-magnetic. They also pointed out that is probably why the barrel is painted and not blued or polished bright. Also there is very very light oxidation on the trunions which is also normal with this type of stainless. Hope this information helps. I assure you, you will not be disappointed with this barrel.
