For sale is a working Collins R-388 HF shortwave radio receiver. These receivers have a continuous frequency coverage of .5 - 30.5 MHZ and are well known for their extremely good stability and rugged construction. This particular receiver came from an estate sale. I've owned it several years and recently put it on a wire antenna to check it out and can verify that definitely works. All controls do what they are supposed to. I tuned to all 30 bands with the calibrator to make sure there aren't any dead bands (it all works), as well as tuned in 5, 10, and 15 MHZ WWV signal with no problem and listen for about an hour on 40M and 20M and it seems to work well. The broadcast band works well too. I have attached 2 pix to show that the drum dial could use the $8.50 replacement that is sold here on but it isn't really necessary. I tuned the receiver to the broadcast band for you to see that is has some small spots of deterioration here and there (though perfectly readable) but on nearly all the other bands the drum dial is good. On one of the attached pix of the chassis, you can see that the chassis is just dirty and can see the spot in one of the pix showing the "spit-finger-test" spot that purposely rubbed so one can see that it is perfectly clean under the fine layer of dust that would be easily cleaned. Notice also that to the right of the name plate there is a light silver stamping by the military that is original but I don't know what it means. This radio is a very nice radio and with some minor cleaning it would sparkle. No further testing has been done but it does include the original bottom and top cover (has the schematic bonded inside). Be sure you look at all the pix and ask if you have questions. Because of age this is sold as-is, no returns, buyer pays shipping of estimated 43 lbs shipping weight from 77840. Local pickup is preferred. Shipping and boxing (I might be able to get free boxing) can be handled here but at buyer's expense. I will work with the buyer to ship the best way. Note: Be aware the because of the variables involved in shipping estimates that 's automatic shipping calculator estimate is sometimes very inaccurate, many times (in my experience) extremely high when compared to what the actual cost is.
