Howdy!Today I am offering for sale a Communication Electronics / Watkins-Johnson (CEI) VHF \"spy\" receiver, model 906A-1, serial number-16. This thing is a beast! It covers 30 MHz - 300 MHz in two bands. Modes are AM, FM, CW. Of course if you\'re looking at this, you probably know all about these little jewels. I didn\'t until I stumbled across Terry O\'Laughlin\'s \"Black Radio\" website. What I\'ve learned is that CEI was a government contractor that made military-quality radio equipment. No, actually these things are BETTER than military quality. This is \"high-end\" surveillance equipment that ended up in the hands of the CIA, FBI, foreign services, and, most notoriously, the Nixon Watergate burglars. This unit was manufactured in the mid-sixties. Communication Electronics was bought out by Watkins-Johnson soon after, but I think that they carried the CEI branding for a while. The face is lightly scratched. The plastic covers around the dial displays are chipped. The case has some blemishes where it was slid in-and-out of a rack. Also, someone added a speaker.... they drilled four holes on the top to mount it. Because of this a few top screws were loosened. The screws are locked-in to the top plate, but I will secure them before shipping. It appears that somebody also changed the RF INPUT and LO OUTPUT connectors. Oh, did I mention that this radio works? Yep, it does! The volume pot is scratchy, but that can be cleaned easily. Dimensions are: 19\" width, 3.5\" height, 16\" depth. Sorry, I don\'t have a manual.
