Confederate Cavalry Saber. An unmarked 1860 pattern cavalry saber which very closely mirrors aBoyle and Gamble. The blade measures 34\" and the total length of the sword is 39.5\". The sword in the scabbard measures 39.5\". The blade hasone very shallow unstopped fuller on each side.There is minor pitting on the last 3\" of the blade, otherwise it isin excellent condition, having abeautiful peppered color it\'s entire length. The cast brass guard andbrass mounts are crude in appearance, as is the finishing work on same. The guard is loose, as is usual withConfederate manufactured swords of this style. The top mount shows wear consistent with use. The throat of the scabbard was replaced by a previous owner, but is not inconsistent with many I have seen on \"Dog River\" sabers. The scabbard has two dents with minor cracking on one side, which appear to be period (to keep saber from rattleing, and one on the other.The gripretains app. 90% ofit\'s original glove leather covering, and what appears to be the original, single strandbrass retaining wire. The seam of the grip is very consistant withBoyle and Gambleswords, as are the scabbard mounts and the guard. The drag has an unusual attachment method and the lapped seam on the underside of the scabbard is rather crudely soldered, also consistent with Confederate manufacture.This sword was purchased from Shannon Prichard several years ago.
