Ferdinand & Isabella funded Christopher Columbus\'s trip to North America, so some of America\'s earliest forms of currency were Spanish maravedis or pirate coins. Back in America\'s earliest days, the British empire would sometimes have difficulty getting currency to the American shores, so more often than not, pirates such as Blackbeard would transport/smuggle coins just like these to the early American settlers. For this sale are 2 Spanish pirate, early American colonial coins. 1 restrike, countermarked 1655 IIII maravedis, and an original 1680 lion and castle \"cob\" maravedis. Just for fun I decided to throw in an antique Plymouth, Mass The Mayflower coin purse as a little bonus. I am not sure if its leather or vinyl. There\'s a couple little stains on the back, I\'ve never even attempted to clean it.
