Thesecond book concerning the Coates family of frontier Texas in the late 1860s, Savage Sam was the sequel to 1956\'s Old Yeller and was inspired by the story of former Apache captive Herman Lehmann, whom Gipson had seen give an exhibition when he was a child. Bound in the publisher\'s illustrated boards. The corners of the front and rear jacket flaps appear clipped, as issued.The jacket shows some light soiling, with a small previous bookseller\'s price label to the rear panel. Overall, this is a very good copy of this scarce first edition.
