This is the very last item of an estate sale we won a few years ago with 5 large boxes of vintage toys. We\'d hoped the arms for the Lil Abner figure would\'ve shown up but they haven\'t surfaced and unfortunately, it seems they\'re not going to. I\'ve been told the Lil Abner arms aren\'t \"permanently\" attached and they just hang and dangle while he dances the jig. So, replacing them would be a fairly simple process “mechanically”, but, finding them isn’t so simple. I just don’t have the connections and resources to make that happen.
This piece is in good working condition, with the exception of Lil Abner\'s missing arms. The litho is in bad to fair condition with several scratches and wear is primarily on the edges and faded but with no crushed or bent/creased metal. Please look at the pictures as they\'re of the actual item. You get exactly what you see.
This vintage toy was manufactured in 1945 by the Unique Art Mfg Company in Newark, New Jersey, and is a highly collectible toy, and could be restored, or used for parts.
There doesn\'t appear to be any loose parts rattling around inside the piano or figures and the clock work gears appear be in good to excellent condition. Easily able to turn/wind the key 10 rotations and could probably go to 15, but, don\'t want to chance breaking the vintage spring.
The spring is strong and moves all the parts well. So cool watching it play, Lil Abner dances, Daisy Mae sways side to side and plays the piano, Mammy Yokum keeps time waving her conductor\'s stick, Pappy Yokum sits in a chair next to the piano playing on the drums, all for approx 5-6 seconds before winding down and stopping. It displays beautifully, (for us, during the Christmas holiday).
My grandkids LOVE watching this work and it\'s been an \"event\" for a few Christmas holidays now and it\'d easily become an \"anticipated tradition\" with the kids, (big kids too), but, we\'re preparing for retirement soon.
This toy features all tin construction with loads of \"cool\" factor. The back of the piano reads:
