From an estate in western MN: Original Trench Art vase, hammered from a 75mm shell casing. Decoration consists of the Union Shield and American Legion insignias on one side, and the writing :VICTORY 11 MONTH, 11 DAY, 11 HOUR 1918\" on the opposite side.
I believe this vase was a souvenir manufactured in the days immediately after WWI, when the American Legion was first organizing in Paris (March 1919), and soldiers were still awaiting transport home.The bottom of the shell casing has clear writing as shown in the pictures: \"LOT 3 F.A. 75mm E.G. 1514 AMLOT\" height 13 5/8\"
