OUTSTANDING ANTIQUE POOL TABLE, Oak Union League Sunburst - Victorian Horner era:
$16000.00

This late Victorian quarter sawn oak pool table is regulation size and an exceptional example of Brunswick\'s Union League Sunburst form. I am very conservative in my descriptions and I am certain that in its category \"carved oak\" antique pool tables, this is one of the finest antique pool tables available. An antique pool table of this caliber will easily retail for $25,000 and up.Victorian billiard tables are often in very rough condition and have had a lot of work done on them before being restored. That was not the case with this table. This table was obviously in a private home, well cared-for and never exposed to water or abusive use. The finish had wear, gone dark and opaque but the table was in exceptional as-found condition. All serial numbers match on the carriage, top rails, slate, etc.. I have seen a lot of antique pool tables and the overall condition of this antique pool table is as good as it gets. The last two pictures are of an outstanding quarter swan oak matching antique ball holder score keeper that came with the table and I am including with the table for no charge, to keep the items together as a set. The balls shown in the picture do not come with it.This pool table could be described as pristine condition and ready to play and it would be an adequate description of the table. But antique pool tables are an item that involve many individual parts and histories. That said, I can add to the description: The felt is a quality, brand new pro glide felt. I had the cushions replaced with quality bullnose cushions and recovered in the new cloth. The bed cloth is still in the bag. I didn\'t put the bed cloth on for the photos so it would stay clean. The felt has never been played on and the cushions have been plastic wrapped to keep them clean. The pockets had been replaced before I bought the table. The pockets are a decent black leather pocket. Not noticeable but there is some minor touch-up to the top rails ends where the ball going in the net or pocket would bump the end of the rail, once again not noticeable. The original slate has no cracks and is in excellent condition. There are always superficial scratches in the slate, that doesn\'t effect the play at all. Hard to believe but this table also has all eighteen of what appear to be the original brass rail bolt covers. The two smaller wooden supports that run inside the table\'s frame, not visible when the table is assembled, appear to be old and fit well but are not numbered like the rest of the table, leaving me to wonder if they are not original to the table. The table has the brass Brunswick balke Collender Co. name plate.Somethings I\'ve never seen before: this table has ebony wood inlaid diamond shaped sights. The secondary wood is oak or a high quality ash instead of poplar that is a commonly used less expensive secondary wood. The quality quarter sawn oak top to the top rails where the sights are, is solid quarter sawn oak, not veneered as with all other Brunswick tables I\'ve seen. This particular table has Brunswick\'s design and construction engineering but the level of quality has been taken to an even higher level. With things like the ebony sights, upgraded craftsmanship and secondary wood, I wonder if this table was a custom ordered. Brunswick was a large and capable company and for a price any custom features or an entire custom table could be ordered. The Brunswick name plate that has obviously been with this table for a very long time, appears to be factory installed but it was not uncommon for other table manufactures and distributors to service a table and put their own name plate on the table. A name plate in itself does not always identify a table\'s maker, many tables are misidentified because of this. For this reason it is only my best guess and reasonable assumption that this table was made by Brunswick and the upgrades in quality are a custom order.I appreciate outstanding antiques that hold up under careful examination, this table is one of them. It has been professionally restored with the utmost care, using the best materials available. Please contact me with any questions.Shipping: The pool table is listed as local pickup only but I will be glad to be of assistance with making arrangement for shipping. I ask that payment for shipping be made by the buyer and paid directly to the shipper.
