Large Wooden Wall Demo for Step by Step Pysanky (Ukrainian Egg) MakingSpent many years creating Pysanky and selling at a local Renaissance Faire. My Dad cut the eggs out of 3/4\" pine and I painted the fronts to symbolize ease step of the Pysanky creation for this particular design. Each egg is 11 1/2\" high x 8 1/2\" wide x 3/4\" thick. The backsides are not painted. There is a hanger at the bottom of the egg due to the set up in my booth needed them to be placed there. But these hangers can be removed and reattached to the spot where it will work best for you. Steps of these eggs - 1. White egg with black design - Black symbolizes the beeswax that is used to seal the pores of the egg, therefore blocking the dyes that will be used from absorbing into that area.2. Yellow egg with added black design - The black that is added symbolizes the beeswax used to seal off the areas where the yellow is to stay.3. Yellow egg with orange and green - The orange and green areas are where it is explained to dip a cotton swab into that dye and place on the egg, then cover with wax where those colors are to remain, sealing the pores in those areas.4. Red egg with added black symbolizes the sealing of the red into the design with beeswax.5. Black egg is the final decorating process of dipping the entire egg into black dye for the background color.6. The result of all the steps one the beeswax is carefully burned off.
