Rare Vintage National Horizon 20 and Horizon 5 Vacuum Tube Amplifier and Preamp:

Back in the 1950s the National Radio Company in Malden, MA (best known for their shortwave radios) released a line of HiFi audio equipment. There was a tuner, 10 and 20 watt power amplifiers, and a preamp module that could plug into any of the other units.

The Horizon 20 is a 20 watt mono amplifier with two 6L6 outputs, a 12AX7 phase splitter/driver, and a 5U4 rectifier. The Horizon 5 is the preamp with two more 12AX7 tubes. A major plus for vintage record collectors is that the Horizon 5 has a bunch of the old EQ curves (NARTB, AES, etc.)

This listing is for a nice fully restored Horizon 20 with Horizon 5 preamp installed. All electrolytic and film capacitors have been replaced with good brand name components (Nichicon, Illinois, Sprague etc). I specifically used Russian K40Y PIO coupling capacitors to help preserve the smooth vintage sound.

The 12AX7s and 5U4GB are old stock USA production tubes (RCA, GE, etc.) while the outputs are Russian Reflector 6n3c.

The controls have been cleaned and the amp gain and hum balance potentiometers have been replaced. The power transformer is a Stancor replacement (the original was likely toasted when the old filter caps got leaky) but it is a perfect drop-in so if I removed the label from the transformer you\'d never know.

There is some paint loss around the edges and the name plate is missing from the back. This is also some finish loss around the volume knob. The pictures capture the condition quiet well. I will include a printout of the owners manuals for both the Horizon 20 and the Horizon 5.
This is a 60+ year old piece of vintage electronics so it is sold AS-IS.
I will package the amp carefully and will ship UPS with insurance. I don\'t make money on shipping (usually I lose...), so if the shipping cost ends up being less I will refund the difference.
