Vintage SCOVILL Restrike Button Presented to Lafayette~Washington 1824 - exc:
$12.50

Greetings from Scotty the Treasure Hunter! This is a very tough to find piece! It is a replica of the 1824 Scovill gold button set that was presented to the Marquis de LaFayette. The Scovill Manufacturing Company at that time was known as Leavenworth, Hayden, and Scovill and as a token of appreciation for General Lafayettes service in the Revolutionary War they presented LaFayette with a full set of Washington Gold Buttons (solid gold), They used the same die to create gold plated restrikes and the restrikes have been dated on the back since 1946. This one is not dated so I would assume it is an earlier restrike. I did some research on the internet:

  • Excellent Scovillrestrikeof the gold button presented to Lafayette by the Scovill Company in 1824
  • It is a replica in gold plate of the original button... this button has been \"re-struck\" by Scovill from the original almost a dozen times since 1876
  • The front is a left facing profile of George Washington
  • The back reads the same as the original:
    • \"Presented to General Lafayette by L.H. & Scovill, Button Manufacturers, Waterbury, Con
    • Starting in 1946, Scovill started indicating the date of issue by stamping the year on the back
  • The button measures 3/4\" in diameter

The Button comes on the original card with info card in the original box. Very nice!

For everyone, especially those who are new to my sales:

I am not an expert in this items field. I describe the item to the best of my abilities and try to take good pictures. Please feel free to email any questions including requests for additional pictures. I will do my best to help and provide you with what you need to offer. I use \'Shipping Calculator\' to determine the fairest and most accurate shipping cost. I have added, depending on item size and weight, $1.50-$3.50 to this shipping cost to cover packing material, labeling and other expenses. I ship around 50-100 items per week and my days of scrounging packing materials are over...I\'ve scrounged everything I can and it\'s all gone!...so, I have to buy boxes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, tape, labels and ink. From what I\'ve seen elsewhere this is a very reasonable fee to ensure your item arrives safe and sound and intact! If you are offerding on more than 1 of my sales and the sales end within a week of each other, I will happily combine orders to save on shipping and handling costs. But please, CHECK SHIPPING COSTS before offerding. Once you pay for an item I can no longer combine shipping with future wins as forces me to ship within 24 hours of payment ... so if you want to combine shipping you need to hold off paying ... no worries tho as I am never in a hurry here! I will wait as long as 2-3 weeks. After that time you must pay to avoid my opening an unpaid item claim as rules forces me to do so before 30 days. International buyers note!! ... any package shipping outside the US will be subject to my International rules which are as follows ... any package valued over $25 will ship Priority International ... no exceptions! The value of the items will be honestly noted on the Customs Forms ... no exceptions! If you have to pay Import Duty or any other taxes, fees set by your countries government these duties and fees are YOUR RESPONSIBILITY ... not mine! With all that said and done....most importantly ... Happy Treasure Hunting and
