The jade is lighter than the pictures made it look. The pictures are taken without a flash. Please look at all pictures. They are part of the description. This high quality large and very heavy piece of natural Chinese jade represents protection, energy, valor and courage. The gorgeous intricately hand carved natural very light green celadon, almost white, jade statute was purchased at an estate sale of a retired Naval Officer. He had an extensive collection of vintage jade carvings that he started collecting in the late 1940\'s to early 1950\'s. How much before these dates this statute was carved is unknown. The hand carved base is not dated as the majority of his carvings, but is signed A.I. This stunning jade carving is a fierce open mouth foo lion. The master artist that carved this statue paid particular attention to detail. The statue was carved from one piece of natural very light celadon Chinese jade. It is so light it borders on being white jade. It has a wooden hand carved base that was made especially for this sculpture. This jade is not dyed. The carving is in excellent condition. No nicks or chips. No cracks. The stand has a split from drying and age. Picture taken. The jade without stand is approximately 3 1/2\"\" in height, approximately 6 3/4\" in length, and approximately 3\" in width. With stand the sculpture measures approximately 5 1/2\" in height, and approximately 7 1/2\" in length, and approximately 4 1/2\" in width. This truly is a fine piece of art. This jade carving weighs almost 7 pounds. The carved statue will be carefully wrapped for shipping to it\'s new home. It can not be put in a large flat rate box.
