This listing represents US Home Front Trench Art. Many variations of shaping and stamping pennies into Patriotic Home Front Pins evolved during the War. This pin features two 1930 ‘s pennies linked together with a small copper link. The artist shaped one penny with the stamped V to high light the V for Victory. The second pin was shaped into the Pearl Harbor style Kelly Helmet. The V is striking and the Helmet Penny is a close resemblance to the style of the M1917A1 Combat Helmet worn at Pearl Harbor, the Philippines (Bataan and Corregidor), Wake Island and Java. Thus the pin is from the early, dark days of the War. The pin measures 1.5 inches in length and .625 inches in width. The pennies were obviously circulated and there is wear to the detail. Also there pennies have darkened with the passage of time. The V for Victory was emblazoned across the very soul of our Nation. It became the emblem of the Allied Nations and could be found in many different manifestations. We would accept only unconditional surrender through total victory, a lesson we long since (sadly) have forgotten.
