You have to know what you want/what you're getting with this instrument, because it might not be what everyone needs. That being said, this little keyboard is awesome; small and portable, with built-in speakers to play and fool around in the house all the time, but amazingly high quality when used in productions/recordings or in a live setting (especially when combined with a nice, full size controller keyboard). Many sound/instrument options like Rhodes and Wurlitzer, and very nice on-board effects to mangle your sounds. Will use it for years to come.

All in all, a great piece of gear. It's a lot of fun to play. I've found it great for writing while just sitting around, using batteries to take it wherever I am. The speakers aren't great, but useful enough for hashing out ideas. The sounds are dead on when plugged in properly. The keys are decent and it's easy to hook up a larger keyboard or controller if you want a full layout. Rhodes 1 and Wurlitzer are probably my favorite. The effects are great and easy to dial in. The hidden acoustic piano mode is a nice bonus.

As a stand alone instrument, it's pretty toy like. I'm not a fan of the mini keys, and the onboard speakers are next to useless. Now...here's the great part. Connect this little gem to a midi keyboard with piano action, and run it through some good powered speakers or sound system, and you've got a great instrument. Really nice sound. I also like that the effects are real time rotary controls. Good delays, reverb, phase shifter, and wah. The vibrato is unique. When used with the Whirly, it's mono, but with either of the Rhodes', it's stereo and pans back and forth. Over all, I give it a 9 out of 10...for my likes and use.

Yamaha knocked it out of the park. All the sounds are excellent. The “ hidden” grand piano sound is also super and plays better than most keyboards that cost way more, I midi up to it from an 88 key controller. Best money I ever spent. I love the way you can dial in effects in real time with no Menu diving. The sound quality is top notch and this is not a top. I will be using it on a big band gig in a few months. Can’t wait!

It’s sounds and effects are very good. Especially the Rhodes and Wurly. MIDI and USB implementation is exactly what you would expect. I play it from an 88 key controller so the mini keys don’t bother me. My only qualm is having to turn the unit off and hold the sound select knob between 2 settings to get the acoustic piano sound. In spite of the fact that it doesn’t seem to have many velocity layers it interpolates between and some audible looping on the bass notes, it’s actually a very useful piano sound especially in a band context. It cuts through without being overly strident. I think most players would have more use for the piano sound than the toy piano setting. I often use it as a virtual instrument in Logic Pro X. It does better than any of my plug ins for EPs.
