cherry finish, which has faded to brown on most of the guitar

serial # 916979

this means it was made.....when?

for dating purposes, it has a volute, dotted i in Gibson, and no \"made in USA\" stamp on the back of the headstock

See the info on Serial Numbers at the bottom of this listing page

Key info:

> finish is cherry - - this means it is old (most of the guitar has faded to brown, but under the pickguard - see photos - the nice original cherry finish is visible)

> fretboard binding has aged to a lovely amber color

> before we got it, it had a neck repair (right where the neck meets the body - see photos)....the repair is rock-solid, and has no issues (other than it is visible)

> action is great

> at some point in the distant past, the original Maestro tailpiece was removed, the Maestro holes plugged, and a new stoptail bridge installed.

> the tuners, bridge, and stoptail are aftermarket, the aged and very cool 5-ply pickguard is original.

> truss rod works fine; the truss rod cover is original

> the back control panel cover is attached via 5 screws; one of those screws doesn\'t work (see photo, the screw is taped into place)

Here is what you will want to do.

1) put in pickups that you like - do you have a favorite high-end set?

2) get the controls / pots for it.

3) that\'s about it. The neck is good, the frets have some wear but are fine, the condition overall of the guitar is reliced - it\'s got a very nice variety of dings / scratches / blems / what-have-you. Has this guitar led a boring life? NO. If you want a case-queen keep looking- - - - but it\'s a great player and looks totally cool.

Let\'s be clear here. This guitar is cool, AND it has been repaired and gigged with. It\'s an old, vintage guitar with character and flaws.

If you don\'t want a guitar like this, DON\'T BUY IT! But if you like cool guitars with character, maybe this is your guitar.

It\'s rock-solid, plays great, and will look great onstage.

And it will be well packed up and will show up ready to ROCK.

All models, stamped in back top of peghead. No \"MADE IN USA\" stampbelow serial number! Note many serial numbers are duplicated from 1963-1969. In these cases, to figure out which is the exact yearfor a guitar, see the General Specs section formore details. ALSO note: It is easy to confuse 5 digit and 6 digitserial numbers from this era, and hence get the wrong year for aguitar. That is, 55555 is not the same number as 555555 (but when readingthe number off the back of a Gibson peghead, these two numbers do look very similar!) Range Year----- ----
