A rare and finely painted 17th c. Russian Orthodox icon of Boris and Gleb on horseback, Boris and Gleb being the Russian Church's first canonized saints. There are many indications that the icon was painted in Pskov, and this is during a period that was essentially Russia's 'Renaissance' era. It was acquired from the estate of an important collector. There is an envelope attached to the back that contains paperwork explaining the story of Boris & Gleb, as well as some information on the icon, in both English and Russian. It measures approximately 16" x 12.75".
