This antique photograph shows Franklin Square in Norwich, Connecticut. This photo was taken before 4 Broadway (currently home to Castle Church) was built in 1894. 4 Broadway would have been in the background, behind the tree to the left of the tallest buildings in the center. Because the street cars were introduced in 1892, I believe this photo dates between 1892 and 1893.
The photo has clear focus, allowing you to read many of the signs that appear on the buildings.The photo measures 7 1/2" x 4 11/16" and is mounted to an 8 7/16" X 5 3/16" card. The photo is in very nice condition with some discoloration from age. The card has wear along the edges and the corners.
