Pair Of Mid-20th Century Chinese Bronze Archaic Table Lamps Hu Vessel Design:

These lamps are designed in the style of an ancient Chinese Hu vessel, which is a bronze, pear shaped container, used for wine or water. These were made during the Middle part of the 20 century and I’m unsure if they were modified into lamps, which was a common practice during that time, or if they were always lamps.

They have a bronze body covered in a verdigris finish. Basically it’s the patina that happens to bronze over a period of time due to oxidation. It was intentionally done this way. The base and top are made of wood.

The pattern on both looks to be of a symbolic motif, common to these types of vessels. They have handles on both sides and the ring moves.

The lamp stands 19 3/8” tall from base to top of socket. They are 6 5/8” in length and 5 3/4” wide. They weigh a whopping 22 pounds each!

The cord is brown and is approximately 68” long.

Both lamps work

Although they were purchased at an Estate sale in CT, they do have some condition issues, most notably and exclusively in the wooden portions.

Lamp 1, has had a repair done, not well, on the

Bottom base where the vessel meets the wood. They are quite delicate and it appears that it was mishandled and snapped off. The top wooden piece also has some damage to it. Both are pictured.

Lamp 2 has the same issue with the bottom base, where the bronze vessel meets the wooden base. This piece is missing. The foot on the opposite side has been damaged as well.

I have taken pictures of the damage and all sides of both lamps for you to view carefully.

They come with the harps that were provided to me with the lamps. I don’t know if these were original to the lamps.

There are No shades.

These lamps are definitely a statement piece and would look amazing in your home. The patina is beautiful and they have that certain je ne sais quoi about them.

They will be carefully packaged for shipping.
