An exceptional 18th-century Māori taiaha from New Zealand, measuring an impressive 76 inches in length.
The taiaha is a traditional Māori fighting staff, skillfully designed for both striking and thrusting in close combat. More than a functional weapon, the taiaha holds an important place within Māori martial tradition and cultural heritage.
This distinguished example features red trade cloth and horse hair decoration, adding considerable visual character to the finely formed wooden staff.
