These representations arecharacterized by having eyes shaped like "coffee beans" and show inconsiderable detail its expression does not reside only in the face with theeyes and mouth open, and the, pointed, concave and erect ears, but in theentire body, whose anatomy appears to be close to reality and the heads areraised to peer straight ahead in a state of alert and guard.

This current dog effigyvessel pottery piece falls within the Colima style, which is perhaps the mostunusual stylistic subgroup of this region. Characterized by a warm, red glaze,the figures are very measured and conservative, while at the same timedisplaying a great competence of line. They are famous for their sculptures ofobese dogs. The cultures that developed in this area between the years 1200B.C. and 600 A.D., are considered part of the same cultural current due to theconnections and similarities in their funeral practices, for example, theirshaft tombs and their artistic production, especially their pottery.

The thermoluminescence test haspushed back the dates of this vessel pottery over 2000 years confirming theyears of its creation to be from the Classic period extending from A.D.300-950.

Condition.

This piece is in excellentcondition. With natural surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, withsome fading and darkening to pigmentation, and light roughness with nicenatural earthen and mineral deposits throughout.
