William Britton "Bil" Baird(August 15, 1904 – March 18, 1987) was an Americanpuppeteerof the mid- and late 20th century. In a career that spanned over 60 years, he and his puppets performed for millions of adults and children. One of his better known creations wasCharlemanethe lion. He and his wife Cora Eisenberg Baird (1912–1967) produced and performed the famous puppetry sequence for "The Lonely Goatherd" in the film version ofThe Sound of Music.[2]His sonPeter Bairdwas also a puppeteer, and he continued his family's legacy until his own death in July 2004.[3](from wikipedi.com)Bil Baird gave this custom display case and book as a gift to a close family friend. This was purchased from their estate.
Custom display case measures 21.5" x 21.5" x 6.5"The puppet on the left has some paint wear on the nose and chin.The puppet on the right has some paint wear on its nose, lips, eye and ear.
(The puppets have been affixed inside the case and can not be removed to take photographs of the other side)
