The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics.
Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased.
This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War.
This particular card was printed in remembrance of:
Franz Baumgartner
Franz served as a Medic and Sergeant in a Mountain Troop Regiment.
During his service, he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class, an Assault Badge, the Kreta Cufftitle, and a Wound Badge.
