This listing is for a 1940s vintage original large painting on canvas titled "Rockport Harbor - Mass" signed by the noted Massachusetts artist, John Hare mounted in it's original wood frame in nice condition with age patina and surface crazing.

John Cuthbert Hare (American, 1908-1978), was an artist and painter primarily known for his paintings of seascapes, harbor & marine scenes, and boats. He was associated with the New England area, especially Cape Cod, Massachusetts where he summered from 1938 to 1965.

Hare was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1908. He studied commercial art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn; the Art Students League; and the Grand Central School of Art in NYC. He exhibited in many galleries abroad, including: France, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland and England. In 1938, the He moved to Amherst, Massachusetts.

His work is in the collections of the Lowe Art Museum, the Lightner Museum in Florida, and the Smith College Museum of Art in Massachusetts.
