MUSEUM GRADE 10-1/8" Turtle Effigy Great Pipe - Ex Dr. Walker.

Offered here is an exceptional authentic Great Pipe from the Dr. William Melvin Walker Estate Collection. It measures 10 1/8″ x 2 7/8″ x 1 3/4″ and is made from a Dark Green Steatite. It features great size and exceptional polish overall including inside the bowl. Accompanied with a Jackson Galleries COA.

Our research indicates that it is likely the longest ‘Turtle’ Effigy Great Pipe in existence. Hart does not list one larger in his Prehistoric Pipe Rack series. Under the chin is noted 12 fanciful tallies, with an additional 4 on the side of the cheek.

Found In Jefferson Co., Kentucky near the Falls of the Ohio. It does exhibit several plow strikes which (miraculously) did not break it, but did scar the surface. Dr. Walker, a Dentist, partially restored some minute features of the head with blackened dental wax which could be easily re-done by an expert restorer if desired.
