STUNNING!! ANTIQUE 1884-1885 HANDMADE HANDSTITCHED CRAZY QUILT TOP.

Condition is Used and in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION! There are two small patches where the material has torn, worn as shown in the attached pictures. Looks like both patches are the same material. Otherwise, no other rips or tears that I could see. This is the quilt top only and doesn't appear to have ever had a backing or trim added. Quilt measures approximately 66" x 66".

This quilt is simply STUNNING IN BEAUTY AND IN HISTORY!! I can only imagine its story!!

The quilt documents The Jamestown Cyclone, Apr. 27, 1884. When googled, it's documented on that date that a Cyclone (now called Tornado) went through Jamestown, Ohio and struck the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphan's Home. No children died. Perhaps this quilt commemorates those in the home or the 6 in the town who died. There are multiple patches with various initials. Perhaps family members. There's also a patch with two small children or citizens or perhaps husband and wife embroidered.

This quilt also has a variety of other mementos stiched such as flowers, birds, an anchor, nature and much more! The stitching thread is done in a variety of colors and the workmanship is IMPECCABLE!!There's even a couple of patches where the material was purposely "fringed" on the ends! Every time I look at it, I discover something new!!
