The hallmarks are for London 1849 and the makers mark of the highly respected Charles Thomas Fox and George Fox . The communion set is of good size and is heavier than usual. The overall height is 5.25 " , the diameters are , base , 3.1 " , cup top 2.25 " and the maximum handle to spout end width is 3.9 " . There are five separate pieces in this set, four of which are hallmarked with either full or partial marks as the law dictates . The spout is not hallmarked , so must be sold as being made of white metal.

Quite an intriquing design ! The whole is in the form of a continental lidded jug . The stylised lid does not lift, but the cross finial is used to turn the central part of the lid and remove it. This allows the wine to be poured in , whilst the spout end unscrews to allow the wine to be poured out . I have filled the wine bottle with water and am able to confirm that the lid and the spout do not leak.The paten is inverted as the base ,and the chalice sits in it and goes up inside the set body. Both are then offered up inside the body of the set .The inverted paten base rim fits perfectly into the set body, no twisting , no turning, just a very snug push fit. The chalice bowl fits very well into the male dome shape of the bottom of the wine bottle.

The elegant handle purely serves as a lifting tool , although there is stylised fixed knop in the formof a cross
copying that which would usually be used to lift the lid.The chalice does not appear to have been used. It is beautifully gold washed inside , as is the wine bottle and lid. The chalice stem is in the form of a fabulous twisted shaped to complement the design of the spout end.

The paten , chalice and cup body all have a superb sunburst decoration with the IHS inside.

The whole is in exceptional condition and is beautifully polished ready for presentation and use.

For your guidance , I use the words " EXCELLENT CONDITION " only if it is ........., " GOOD CONDITION " to indicate that there are no serious condition problems , but that there may be surface blemishes such as light discolouration , minor dings , dents or scratches commensurate with the age of the piece.............. I use the words " REASONABLE CONDITION " to indicate that there are blemishes and dings ,dents, creases , scratches , ripples etc . Under this condition category I will always qualify such defects , but please ask if you want any clarification of damages to any given piece.
