ANTIQUE WILD WEST TINTYPE PHOTO POSSIBLY CHARLIE BOWDRE?? COMMENTS/VIEWS WELCOME.
Great old tintype photo showing 2 cigar smoking men having a drink. The one pouring is very interesting indeed and my suggestion is that this could well be Charlie Bowdre of the famous Lincoln County Regulators gang, and also Charlie was the good friend of the legendary Billy the Kid. Indeed can anyone recognise the drink they are having? (see 4th photo for close up of bottle).
I have also included 2 comparison photos (see 6th & 7th photos) of the Bowdre in this tintype V Genuine Bowdre photo, and there really is a strikingly close resemblance. What do any experts, historians or librarians think?
Not to be outdone, I think the second man is equally as important (being the man with the cigar in his mouth and receiving the drink). This man has a strikingly close resemblance to the suggested Billy the Kid in the famous playing cards (with his gang) photo c.1877 - see 9th photo. I have also included a comparison photo (see 10th photo) of this second man in this tintype (cigar in mouth) V Billy the Kid playing cards. What do any experts, historians or librarians think? Somehow I think this second man might be quite closely associated (friend?) with Billy the Kid and The Regulators gang members.
In the penultimate photo, I have attempted to show what looks like a ring (or possibly 2 rings; one on the pinkie little finger and maybe another on the wedding finger?) on the left hand of the second man (with the cigar in his mouth and receiving the drink). Once again I'm looking for any views and/or comments about whether you can see the outline of a ring or two?
Thanks for looking at this rather interesting old photo which I will continue to research.
I do feel that this tintype could well be of US National importance in relation to the old Wild West, hence me trying to seek out other opinions.
Anyway, appreciate any comments, views, opinions from anyone (including experts, historians, librarians etc) about this fascinating old (nearly 150 years old) tintype photo.
