This Dunhill Rollboy fuel lighter is believed to date between 1934 and 1936, representing an early transitional period prior to the formal granting of the patent. Pieces from this phase retain distinctive structural and marking characteristics associated with pre-patent production.

The body is constructed of copper/brass with an early thin gold wash plating. The surface remains entirely original, without polishing or restoration, and displays a naturally developed iridescent patina acquired over decades. This patination reflects optical and chemical aging of the metal layers rather than wear, and is widely regarded as desirable among advanced collectors for its authenticity and preservation integrity.
