Exceptional Late 19th Century Italian Carrara Marble Sculpture – “Fonte d’Amore” (Fountain of Love), attributed to Pietro Bazzanti (1825–1895), Florence, Italy.A magnificent and highly decorative monumental carved Carrara marble figural sculpture, dating to the late 19th century and associated with the celebrated Florentine sculptor Pietro Bazzanti.The composition depicts an elegant classical female nude seated upon a naturalistically carved rocky fountain, surrounded by beautifully modeled putti. The figure is rendered with remarkable delicacy, from her serene expression and flowing hair to the deeply carved folds of drapery cascading around her body.The elaborate base is particularly impressive, incorporating putti, foliage, rockwork and the sculpted face of a bearded water deity, creating a dramatic allegorical composition traditionally known as “Fonte d’Amore” or “Fountain of Love.”Executed in white Carrara marble, the sculpture demonstrates the exceptional craftsmanship for which Florentine marble workshops of the 19th century became internationally renowned.
