YEDUHI MENUHIN and CHAIM WEIZMANN. Comprises: (1) CHAIM WEIZMANN. TLS: "Chaim Weizmann" as President of Israel, 1p, 5¾x7½. Tel Aviv, 1951 January 4. On State of Israel letterhead to Mr. Arye Shenkar, Manufacturer's Association of Israel, Tel Aviv. In Hebrew, translated. Begins: "Dear Sir". In full: "I am taking the liberty of sending you tickets to the festive concert by violinist Yeduhi Menuhin. The proceeds of this concert will go to the Foundation for the Rehabilitation of Wounded Soldiers. I hope to see you in the audience at this festive concert. With thanks and blessing". CHAIM WEIZMANN (1874-1952) wrote this letter the year he began his second term as first President of Israel (1949-1952). As a professor at the University of Manchester in England, Weizmann became the leader of the Young Zionist opposition and President of the English Zionist Federation (1917), and he was later President of the World Zionist Organization (1920). In May 1948, Weizmann was elected President of the Provisional State Council of Israel and in 1949, following the general election, he became the nation's first President. Slightly creased. Fine condition. (2) YEDUHI MENUHIN. Photograph signed: "Yehudi Menuhin/1943". B/w, 4½x7 overall, image 4x6 (one surface). Violin virtuoso YEHUDI MENUHIN (1916-1999) autographed this photograph in 1943 while he was touring Allied war zones and giving benefit concerts during WWII. His first performance as a violinist was at the age of seven. At age eleven, Menuhin made his first European tour and appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York. Menuhin gained distinction for the new and rarely performed music that he commissioned. In 1963, he opened a school for musically gifted children. Menuhin also published violin instruction books, essays and his autobiography, Unfinished Journey (1977). Light diagonal crease at lower left corner touches the "Y" in Yeduhi. Fine condition. Two items. Framed to an overall size of 32x25½. Frame has small chip at upper right and left side.
