A fine late 19th-century Zuni pottery jar featuring distinctive applied frog figures and traditional painted decoration.
Jars such as this were frequently made for home use as repositories for sacred corn meal, an important necessity in daily household ceremonies and prayers. The sculptural frog elements and painted imagery give this example a particularly striking presence.
Dating to the 1890s and measuring an impressive 9 1/4 inches in diameter, this is a wonderful example of historic Zuni pottery with strong visual character and documented provenance from the Florsheim Collection, Chicago, Illinois.
