FOR SALE 19 TH CENTURY BRONZE DECORATIVE AND NATURALIST BOX circa 1860 - absolutely BEAUTIFUL - by the famous French sculptor AUGUSTE CAIN - signed "CAIN" on the right medallion on the front side , in EXCELLENT CONDITION.

Auguste Nicholas Cain was a noted French sculptor in the Animaliers school, known for his portrayals of wild and domesticated animals. Caïn was born in Paris , November 16th 1822 . Died in Paris August 6th 1894. I bought it in New York City in 2005 from antique store.

The box has handles imitating interlaced branches on four curved legs. The lid is circled with braces patterns and is surmounted by a pheasant with her babies. Of the two main sides, four oval niches are decorated with animals, on one hand three partridges and a duck and the other three partridges and rabbits. The set is richly decorated with ivy, foliated branches and mulberry fruit in high relief.
