Yellow Cedar Tlingit “Eagle Clan” Helmet - Duane Bosch - 1995 - Hoonah Alaska:
$25000.00
Exceptional hand carved from a single block of Alaskan yellow cedar “Eagle” clan helmet by Tlingit master carver Duane Bosch, whom is from Hoonah Alaska, signed and dated 1995.
This is a full sized wearable helmet with inlay rough cut abalone shell within the white feathers of the eagle’s head and hand cut and hammered copper inlay eyes.
This entire piece is so well done down to the totemic human figure under the beak and front of the helmet, which reflects the artists skill and talent.
All the pigments used are traditional colors and enhance the totemic style this piece depicts.
These were made to last, be worn, danced with, and handed down from generation to generation.
“Tlingit eagle and man clan helmets are rare, 18th-19th century wooden, high-status armor pieces representing crests, ancestors, or spirits for protection and intimidation in battle. Carved from hardwood like spruce or cedar, these helmets feature intricate designs—often combining human faces with eagle features.”
