The Miraculous Medal is one of the most beloved of all religious medals. In 1830, the Virgin Mary appeared to a French nun named Sister Catherin Laboure (now a Saint). The Virgin Mary showed Sister Catherin her vision of this exact medal, which she directed to be struck and distributed. The medal includes the Virgin Mary, across, two hearts and 12 stars.

The inscription reads:

O Mary conceived without sin

pray for uswho have recourse to thee.

The back of the medal includes the M, cross, two hearts and 12 stars referred to above.
