1892-93 Chicago World Fair Columbian Exposition Table Cover/Runner Red & White:

This beautiful rectangular shaped Table Cover/Runner/ measures 43" long (with fringe) by 22" wide. The cotton damask linen reveals a white background with stars and stripes, American Eagle and "Chicago" worked into the weaving (see pictures). The two ends depict Christopher Columbus in red threads with the year 1492. White fringe also adorns the two ends. The theme is the Chicago World's Fair of 1892-1893 which honors Christopher Columbus, hence the Fair's name, Columbian Exposition, commemorating the year 1892 as being the 400th anniversary of the Columbus voyage in 1492. This souvenir tapestry must have been valued in its day as it was obviously used in the home carefully or not at all, based on the very good condition it exhibits today. This is a rare and beautifully maintained keepsake from Chicago's 1893 World's Fair.
