Antique Genesy Electric Lantern Co. electric railroad signal lantern from Kansas City, Missouri, dating to the early 1920s.
The lid is embossed “GENESY – ELECTRIC LANTERN CO. – PAT. PDG. – KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.” The patent-pending marking is particularly interesting on this early example.
Genesy electric lanterns were designed primarily for railroad use. This example retains its copper-toned metal body, insulated carrying handle, hanging hook, hinged battery compartment, internal spring/contact assembly, bulb assembly, glass focusing lens and circular protective base/stand.
The lantern is WORKING, as shown in the photos.
The original Genesy railroad lantern design was patented in 1922, with subsequent improvements patented during the 1920s. This example is conservatively described as circa early 1920s due to its patent-pending marking.
Condition
Very good antique condition with age-appropriate patina, oxidation, surface wear, scratches and discoloration.
Electrical system has been tested and the lamp illuminates. Glass lens is present and intact. Handle, hook, hinged lid and base are present.
No polishing or restoration has been performed. Original aged finish/patina has been preserved.
